On December 9, 2009, the Metropolitan Builders Association hosted their 2010 Installation of Officers Ceremony at the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center in Milwaukee. Many attendees took the opportunity to participate in a silent auction which benefited the Bruce Horner Scholarship. In addition to celebrating the MBA’s new officers for 2010, a number of members were commemorated for their hard work and commitment to the MBA.
Timothy O’Brien, Tim O’Brien Homes, was installed as the 2010 President of the Metropolitan Builders Association. In addition to O’Brien, the following officers were installed: President-Elect: Ed Miller, E. Miller & Associates; Vice President: Scott Thistle, Brookstone Homes; Secretary-Treasurer Rod Demlang, Demlang Builders, Inc.; Chairman Associate Susan Montie, ACS/Advanced Communication Specialists; Vice Chair Associate Colleen Horner, Colleen Horner Kitchen.Bath.Tile.Stone; and Secretary-Treasurer Edward Brzozowski, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Inc. David Belman, Don Belman Homes, Inc.; Jeffrey Burg, JFK Design-Build, Inc.; Carla Cross, Cross Development Group, Inc.; Cindy Kuhs, Kuhs Quality Homes; and Jim Doering, Homes by Towne were also installed as new members of the 2010 Board of Directors. Kristen Cox, Waterstone Mortgage; Brad Dagen, Rose & de Jong Law Firm; Ryan Krueger, L.H. Krueger & Sons; Brett Wittig, Squared Away Builders, Inc.; Dan Firkus, Dave Droegkamp Heating; Greg Adamac, Milwaukee Millwork; Marty Schallock, Malkin’s Carpets; and Susan Kentowski-Vierck, Bank Mutual were also installed as new members of the Associate Advisory Board Members, and will represent the MBA’s subcontractor members in 2010.
At the ceremony, directors of the Metropolitan Builders Association presented the Builder and Associate of the Year awards, as well as the Associate’s Choice Award. These awards are the highest commendations given to the MBA membership. Builders and Associates are recognized for their dedication not only to the MBA, but also to the building industry as a whole. The MBA congratulates Michael Kaerek of Kaerek Homes, Inc., for achieving the 2009 Builder of the Year Award, and Paul Seitz, R & R Insurance Services, for achieving the 2009 Associate of the Year Award. In addition, the Associate’s Choice Award honors an MBA builder, remodeler, or land developer who is loyal in his or her use of MBA member suppliers and subcontractors. Voted on by Associate members of the MBA, this award was given to Tim O’Brien, Tim O’Brien Homes.
Two members, Bruce Horner and Dan Sabin, were also installed into the MBA Hall of Fame. Although Bruce Horner has passed away, the MBA honors him for his involvement in many MBA committees and his energetic dedication to young adults at inner city schools to expound the advantages of construction and the trades as a career choice. Dan Sabin has been a member of the MBA since 1965 and has served on many committees. He has also won countless honors and awards, including WBA Associate of the Year, MBA Associate of the Year, Builder Sales Manager of the Year – Whirlpool Corporation, and was inducted into the WBA Hall of Fame in 2000.
The MBA would like to congratulate their members once again for their achievements in the industry and encourage them to continue their leadership service. The MBA is a non-profit and non-partisan association which represents the building industry in the metropolitan Milwaukee area. The MBA develops and offers education for consumers as well as members. By establishing business ethics and industry standards, the MBA has earned a reputation as a trusted resource. Consumers enjoy our promotions for housing and housing products, while members take part in our professional and social activities throughout the year. The MBA has a long standing tradition of giving back to the community through a variety of philanthropic ventures.
