What to Look For When Buying a Condo
(Waukesha, WI) October 4, 2007 – On Thursday, October 18th at 7:00 p.m., the Metropolitan Builders Association will host a consumer seminar titled, “What to Look for When Buying a Condo.” “This seminar will take a look at the pros and cons of buying a condo and equip attendees with important questions to ask when considering the purchase of a condo,” said MBA Executive Director Matt Moroney. “Condominium living has a lot to offer, but just as when building or buying a home, you need to enter the process as an informed buyer. Consumers need to take the time to ask questions.”
When selecting a condominium, many buyers fear they might lack background knowledge in home investment; however, a buyer can easily do some simple investigating by following these tips:
- Read the covenants, conditions, and restrictions. Find out what your maintenance responsibilities are from your condominium’s Homeowner’s Association.
- Ask how large the Homeowner Association’s reserve funds are. These are used to pay for maintenance and emergency repairs. Small reserves increase the chance of being billed for an unexpected assessment in the future.
- Be sure to talk to other members, specifically about restrictions. Some Homeowner’s Associations dictate what decorations and holiday lights are allowed. It is important to know these details to avoid disappointment in the future.
Additional tips will be given at the seminar. “What to Look for When Buying a Condo” will begin at 7:00 p.m. and last approximately one and one-half hours with opportunities to ask plenty of questions. Mia Fero of Wimmer Brothers Building Company will provide consumers with practical advice so they can make a truly informed decision when considering a condo for purchase.
This free seminar runs Thursday, October 18th from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the Metropolitan Builders Association’s office – N16 W23321 Stone Ridge Drive in Waukesha. Pre-registration is recommended but not required. To register, please visit www.MBAonline.org or call 262.436.1122.
