(Waukesha, WI) January 11, 2007 – The Metropolitan Builders Association of Greater Milwaukee is pleased to announce the winners of the fourteenth annual Bruce Horner Memorial Scholarship Design Contest. This year, all four of our winners came from Waukesha schools. Nicholas Zukauskas, Waukesha West High School, received a $1,000 scholarship for his first place entry in the three-dimensional home design category. Kevin Rode, Waukesha West High School, received a $500 scholarship for placing second in the three-dimensional home design category. Luke Nabak, Waukesha North High School, received a $1,000 scholarship for his first place entry in the one-dimensional blueprint design category. Ryan Sambs, Waukesha West High School, received a $500 scholarship for placing second in the one-dimensional blueprint design category.

Scholarship winners received their awards at a presentation during Home Builders Expo at the Midwest Airlines Center, 400 W. Wisconsin Ave., on Thursday, January 4, 2007. “The Association truly enjoys awarding these scholarships each year,” said Matt Moroney, MBA Executive Director, “We hope that by recognizing these deserving students who have focused their interests in the building trades we will encourage more young people to do the same.”

The Bruce Horner Memorial Scholarship Fund was developed to honor a past MBA president who died of cancer in 1993.  Mr. Horner carried a deep conviction that the housing industry must encourage students to enter the building trades to help maintain a qualified and educated workforce. Design contest entrants were required to design a home for a fictional family according to that family’s specifications. Students were challenged to prioritize the family’s differing preferences, keeping in mind their budget and subdivision requirements.
