Winners of Best Booth and Landscaping Contests Announced

The 18th Annual Home Builders Expo, presented by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, offered over 830 booths (the largest number of booths in Expo history) representing a myriad of construction related services. Approximately 12,700 guests took advantage of the opportunity to meet with MBA members and gather information for their home improvement, building, or remodeling needs.

Matt Moroney, Executive Director of the MBA, is optimistic about the quality of leads generated at the Expo. “Based on the enthusiasm of our exhibitors, the outlook for 2007 is positive for the building industry. This strengthens our position that now is a good time to build, remodel, or improve your home,” said Moroney. “Attributes of the current housing market such as low mortgage rates, a large selection of available product, and a projected future of growth bode exceptionally well for potential buyers. Seldom, in recent history, has there been a more advantageous environment for home shoppers”

Special guest Ed Sanders from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was joined by the Koepke family of Dundee, WI at the show, where it was a reunion of sorts for many of the companies and individuals who were involved in the Wisconsin Extreme Makeover: Home Edition project in October.

Enhancing this year’s show was the professionalism offered by different member participants. Companies who participate in the Expo automatically compete against one another in the best booth contest. Outside judges determine the winners of the Best Builder and Associate Booths in specific size categories. This year the winners were:

Best Builder Booth 10 x 10, Bayer Homes, Inc. took first place; RMA Construction, Design & Land Development took second place; and Mulligan & Associates, Inc. took third place.

Best Builder Booth 10 x 20, j.d.j. builders, inc. took first place; Brillo Home Improvements, Inc. took second place; and Tailor Made Homes, LLC took third place.

Best Builder Booth 10 x 30 & Larger, Nostalgic Times LLC/ Reflections Village took first place; Demlang Builders, Inc. took second place; and J. Anthony Homes took third place.

Best Associate Booth 10 x 10, Designs in Marble took first place; Snapcourt of Wisconsin took second place; and Anthony Kegel Design Arts, LLC took third place.

Best Associate Booth 10 x 20, LandWorks took first place, Wood Specialties Inc. took second place, and Hawks Nursery Co. took third place.

Best Associate Booth 10 x 30 & Larger, Bret Achtenhagen’s Seasonal Services took first place, La Rosa Landscape Co. took second place; and Sears took third place.

"Exhibitors are putting more emphasis on using their booth design to draw consumers in," said Moroney.  "Our members go to great lengths to determine the needs of their customers and it shows in the presentation and effort seen in their booths." Since the show's beginning, the MBA has made it a priority to judge the participating booths to recognize members for their efforts in ensuring the highest quality Home Builders Expo possible.

At the 2001 Expo, the MBA also launched a landscaping competition. Now in its seventh year, the contest has showcased the talent of numerous area landscaper members over the years and has generated excitement among consumers looking for the latest trends in landscaping. According to Moroney, “The rapid growth of spending on residential landscaping in recent years has made landscape designers important players in the home building industry.” This year’s winner in the landscape design contest was Aquatica, LLC.

Home Builders Expo continues to be Wisconsin’s largest home show. “We were very excited by the increase in exhibitors at this year’s show, providing more variety than ever for consumers.” said Moroney. “The interest in our show for members and consumers alike speaks to the strength of the housing industry and the high quality of our show.”
